Yesterday Ashley Biden, the daughter of Jill and Joe Biden, hosted a Wisconsin Women for Biden organizing event. Biden discussed Vice President Biden’s newly released Women’s Agenda and what’s at stake for women in Wisconsin this November. Biden was joined by State Representative Shelia Stubbs, Madison Common Council Alder Arvina Martin, Progress Center for Black Women Founder Sabrina Madison, and UW-Madison College Democrats President Rianna Mukherjee.

“I’m here today because I adore my father, but I also deeply believe he has the character and the vision to lead this country,” said Ashley Biden. “When I say I’m ready for a Biden presidency, it’s not just because I think my dad is the best person. With my dad as president, he will help us solve some of the great challenges of our generation. He will help our public schools become more equal and equitable, so we can deliver on the promise of opportunity for all. He will make childcare more affordable and create good paying union jobs. He will tackle the climate crisis, protecting our land and seas, advancing policies that value our environment and grow our clean energy economy. And he has the empathy and fortitude to help us address the racial and economic disparities that undermine all communities…Make no mistake, women will decide this election. Women of color will decide this election. Women for Biden keep up the great work. I know when women unite, we are going to win. Let’s do this Wisconsin.”

Additional key quotes from the organizing event are below:

State Representative Shelia Stubbs: “Today we have another opportunity to make our voices heard. Vice President Biden is a dedicated public servant who understands the need for a women’s voice in the oval office. That’s why many strong and outspoken women have come to support him and what his campaign represents. It is clear that Vice President Biden’s opponent is scared of our strength. He is intimidated by our accomplishments.”

Madison Common Council Alder Arvina Martin: “If a woman has to drop out of the workforce to care for her child or an elderly parent or relative, she then is not able to save for retirement. She may have a hard time getting back into the workforce and to continue to make money. And that’s a real problem, especially right now. I know that Joe Biden is going to do a great job in expanding access to everybody throughout the country, as well providing more options for care for our seniors.”

Progress Center for Black Women Founder Sabrina Madison: “We have to get out and elect Joe Biden because there are areas in Wisconsin and across the country that need work that benefits women who look like me and people who benefit from my work. Black women across the state are losing housing to eviction and are  facing unemployment. I’m a firm believer that Joe Biden will lead us into a path where these things – housing, transportation, economic development –  will be better for us overall. Make sure you are registered to vote and get out there and vote for Joe Biden.”

UW-Madison College Democrats President Rianna Mukherjee: “I know that Joe Biden understands that women, especially women of color in this country, have disproportionately been affected by the equal pay gap, access to affordable healthcare and the list goes on. That is why I’m here with you all to support Joe Biden and make sure that he wins in November.”
