Wisconsin Dem Party to scale back state convention, cancels congressional district conventions

The state Dem Party today announced it will cancel all congressional district conventions and scale back its state convention from two days to one. The convention was slated for June 12-13 in the Wisconsin Dells. But the party’s administrative committee last night voted to approve a number of the changes to the convention, which will now just be June 12. That includes: authorizing DPW Chair Ben Wikler to determine by May 1 whether to hold the convention in-person or virtually and restricting the convention to include only limited speeches, reports and the election of DNC members. Madison, WI – Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) made the following statement today in response to the rapid developments surrounding COVID-19 in Wisconsin:   “As of today’s update, there are 155 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin.  Pandemics are thankfully rare, but Wisconsin has a process to handle the many decisions that must be made. “Sec. 323.10 grants the Governor the authority to declare a public health emergency, activating several other statutes that allow for executive actions not normally authorized.   The Governor did this March 12th and has utilized the powers in several ways to attempt to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
