Madison – The Wisconsin Pipe Trades Association applauds Governor Evers for signing Executive Order #20, which will help the state identify and take action against law-breaking employers who misclassify workers to avoid paying unemployment taxes, worker’s compensation premiums and health care benefits.
A Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) study found that more than 40 percent of all employees reviewed were misclassified – resulting in $70 million in under-reported wages. Additionally, recent surveys performed by Wisconsin Infrastructure Investment Now (WIIN) have revealed strong public support for curbing this deceitful practice. More than 90% of voters support laws that require public bids to accurately reflect all taxpayers’ costs associated with a company’s bid.
“We thank and commend Governor Evers for taking this important step towards ensuring a level playing field for all bidders on Wisconsin’s public projects,” said Terry Hayden, president of the Wisconsin Pipe Trades Association.
