MILWAUKEE – In response to the President’s lie-filled speech attacking immigrant communities, Voces de la Frontera issued the following statement:

“All families have the right to seek safety and freedom,” said Alejandra Gonzalez, a student at Alverno College and member of Voces de la Frontera. “As a DACA recipient, I am grateful to my parents for coming here to seek a better life. Today, I am majoriting in community leadership and development at Alverno College, because I want to give back to my community. We call on Trump to allow the families seeking safety at the border to apply for asylum. Families and children should be welcomed and supported, not separated and allowed to die in Trump’s detention centers, like 8 year-old Felipe Gomez and 7 year-old Jakelin Caal.”

“Trump is the real national crisis,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera. “He is a racist and an elitist who has no regard for families and children at the border seeking refuge from violence and death, or for the millions of working-class families impacted by his shutdown. The vast majority of people do not want this racist and wasteful wall. Trump is denying people their right to seek asylum under international and US law. Now he is holding hostage federal employees and millions of taxpayers, farmers, and families, all to promote his hateful agenda. We call on Senator Ron Johnson to vote for bipartisan legislation to end this shutdown without providing one more dollar to Trump’s attacks on immigrant and refugee families.”
