La Crosse – Today, the House Committee on Ways and Means held a hearing on the U.S.-China Trade Relationship, with United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer appearing as the sole witness to the Committee.

U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, a senior member of the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, discussed the need to lift harmful tariffs that are hurting Wisconsin’s workers, farmers and families, while achieving meaningful reforms in our U.S-China trade relationship.

A written statement from Rep. Kind is below:

“There is a bipartisan consensus on the challenges we face with China, and a bipartisan agreement on the need to solve these issues – but a major disagreement on the means we use to get there. We know that there is strength in numbers, and that we can’t do this alone.

Back home in Wisconsin, our family farmers and manufacturers are the ones taking the brunt of this unilateral trade policy. We’re the ones losing the President’s trade war, and we’re the ones feeling the pain of this Administration’s misguided trade policies,” said Rep. Ron Kind.

The Ways and Means Committee is the most powerful – and the oldest – committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over trade and tariff laws, as well as many other economic growth measures.
