Bill introduced as Trump Administration pressures courts to dismantle Affordable Care Act

La Crosse – Today, U.S. Rep. Ron Kind cosponsored the Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions & Making Health Care More Affordable Act of 2019, which will protect Americans with pre-existing conditions, lower health insurance premiums for Wisconsin families, expand access to quality health care coverage for the uninsured, and give states more power to innovate and invest in enrolling more people in affordable health care.

This comes at the same time as the Trump Administration wages yet another war on the health of Wisconsinites by supporting a lawsuit that would repeal the Affordable Care Act and throw the entire healthcare system into chaos. The ACA was landmark health reform legislation that strengthened access to health care coverage across the country and built in life-saving patient protections. The Trump Administration’s lawsuit would cause millions of Americans to lose their health care coverage, raise drug prices, and threaten access to Medicare.

“I believe in putting Wisconsin patients over Washington politics, which is why I’m fighting to save the Affordable Care Act,” saidRep. Ron Kind. “I am proud to support this bill, and will continue the fight to ensure every Wisconsinite – regardless of where they live or what pre-existing conditions they live with – has access to quality, affordable healthcare.”

Earlier this month, Rep. Kind sent a letter to Congressional Committee leadership urging them to prioritize strengthening the Affordable Care Act, and tackle rising health care costs. Specifically, the letter urged Committees of jurisdiction, including the Committee on which Rep. Kind sits, the Ways and Means Committee, to stabilize the health care marketplace, provide additional premium assistance, fund enrollment assistance programs, and create a dedicated reinsurance program.
