La Crosse – Today, U.S. Rep. Ron Kind cosponsored the Reduce Unemployment for Veterans of All Ages Act, which will help Veterans with service-connected disabilities access career development training and good-paying, meaningful jobs through the VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program. Currently, Veterans can only access the employment program up to 12 years after their service ends.
“Wisconsin’s Veterans put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms. We owe it to them to ensure they have the resources and tools they need to succeed when they return to civilian life – regardless of their age,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “I am proud to cosponsor the Reduce Unemployment for Veterans of All Ages Act, so our Veterans have an equal opportunity to find good-paying, meaningful jobs here in Wisconsin.”
Over half of veterans who are unemployed are over the age of 45, and the arbitrary 12-year limit means older veterans with disabilities aren’t able to receive the resources they may need to find a job or job training opportunities. The Reduce Unemployment for Veterans of All Ages Act would lift the 12-year limit, giving Veterans of all ages more opportunity.
Rep. Kind has been a longtime supporter of bills aimed at helping Veterans find jobs when they return to civilian life, including the Veteran Entrepreneurship Training Act, and the Better Jobs for Veterans Act.
