Madison, WI – Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green), as Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Revenue & Financial Institutions, held a public hearing to interview Governor Tony Evers’ appointments to the leadership of the Department of Revenue (DOR), the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI).

Secretary Designees Peter Barca (DOR), Brad Pfaff (DATCP) and Kathy Blumenfield (DFI) appeared before the committee for introductions and questions.  The committee also heard testimony from stakeholders, professional associations and others.

“I appreciate the candor demonstrated by each of the Secretary-Designees we met with today,” Marklein said. “Each member of our committee has had a chance to meet with them individually to meet, get to know them and ask questions about the things that are important to those we serve.”

“The confirmation process enables the State Senate to conduct these types of interviews and seek feedback on members of the Governor’s cabinet. I do not take this role lightly,” Marklein said. “The Secretaries will be leading agencies that directly impact the day-to-day lives of the people, businesses and organizations we represent.”

The Committee plans to vote on the Secretarial Appointments by paper ballot on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. Once approved by the committee, the Appointments move to the Committee on Senate Organization and may be added to a Senate Floor calendar in the future.

Marklein represents the 17th Senate District, which includes all or parts Grant, Green, Iowa, Juneau, Lafayette, Monroe, Richland, Sauk and Vernon counties. Marklein serves on the legislature’s budget-writing Joint Finance Committee and is Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Revenue & Financial Institutions.
