MADISON – State Representative Jessie Rodriguez, R-Oak Creek, joined her Assembly Republican colleagues this morning to unveil the Middle Class Tax Cut proposal. If approved, the tax cut will provide $340 million in tax relief for middle class families in Wisconsin.

“Over the last eight years, Republicans have cut taxes by more than $8 billion and because of those tax cuts our revenues continue to grow and we have yet another surplus,” said Rodriguez. “Responsible budgeting by Republicans will allow Gov. Evers to fulfill a major campaign promise he made to middle class families.”

Gov. Evers proposed eliminating the manufacturing and agriculture tax credit to pay for a 10 percent tax cut for the middle class. According to a UW report, the manufacturing and agriculture tax credit has led to the creation of 42,000 jobs in Wisconsin from 2013-2016.

“This proposal is a creative way to help Gov. Evers deliver on his tax cut promise without raising taxes on farmers, manufacturers and other hardworking families throughout our communities. With the surplus created by Republicans there is no reason to raise taxes on families in Wisconsin,” said Rodriguez.

The GOP surplus over the last biennium totals more than $588 million. The tax cut will be approximately 10.5 percent for median income families benefiting families making $150,000 or less and individuals making $100,000 or less.

“I’m proud of the work my colleagues and I have accomplished over the years to reduce taxes and I’m looking forward to working with the administration to continue providing tax relief for the hardworking families in my community.”
