Representative Scott Allen (R-Waukesha) issued the following statement regarding Governor Evers’ Budget Address:

“Governor Evers words in this budget address must have been music to the ears of the average liberal because it echoed the same old Democrat talking points from the last eight years. The governor appears to be telling the Republican legislature that he has better ideas. I did not see or hear an olive branch of bi-partisanship. Tonight I heard more partisan posturing and political pandering.

“In reality the facts do not support his suppositions. For instance, he claims that expanding Medicaid is essential to improving access to health care and yet Wisconsin has the 9th lowest uninsured rate in the nation and our uninsured rate has improved dramatically over the last eight years under Republican policies. What he neglects to explain is that under Medicaid expansion, when federal matching funds decline, Wisconsin taxpayers are left footing the bill.

“He also fails to tell the people of Wisconsin that the average Milwaukee Choice School rated nearly 10 points higher than the average Milwaukee Public School. You might remember that the Milwaukee Public School rating, which ‘fails to meet expectations,’ was developed during his tenure as the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

“What I heard tonight is that he wants to increase government spending and raise taxes. And he wants bi-partisanship. You don’t poke someone in the eye and then say ‘I want to be friends.’”
