Madison, WI – This evening, Governor Tony Evers delivered his inaugural budget address. Governor Evers outlined a variety of policy initiatives his administration will be focusing on.
Rep. Mary Felzkowski (R-Irma) reacted to the Governor’s address:
“I’m disappointed that the Governor continues to pursue divisive policies that legislative Republicans simply cannot vote for. I will not vote to expand welfare or increase taxes on the hardworking people of Wisconsin.”
“During his address, Governor Evers shared his experiences travelling around the state gathering input on his budget priorities. I too have held office hours and listening sessions, and reached out to constituents of my district to ask them what they would like to see from this budget and from the Legislature this session. Among the numerous issues discussed, there are several similarities, but one I always hear loud and clear is no increased taxes. We have made tremendous progress in our state over the last 8 years while holding the line on property taxes and eliminating the state personal property tax. While he was campaigning, late in the race, Governor Evers indicated he would not raise taxes. Unfortunately, it looks like he isn’t planning on keeping that promise. The ‘people’s budget’ should include all Wisconsinites. Unfortunately, many of the budget proposals we heard about tonight only seem to represent the interests of Dane and Milwaukee Counties.”
“I look forward to supporting a budget that holds the line on taxes and advocates for the entire state, especially our rural communities. I believe that there is so much that we can achieve in divided government if we decide to put politics aside, roll up our sleeves, and turn our attention to improving the lives of Wisconsin citizens.”
