MADISON – The Wisconsin State Senate voted today to approve the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act, which would guarantee comprehensive protections for infants who survive a botched abortion. Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna), who authored the bill with Senate President Roger Roth (R-Appleton), released the following statement regarding the vote:
“I’d like to thank Senator Roth and the Republican Senators who ensured that this life-saving legislation could continue moving forward. Protecting infants who are alive and breathing is a reasonable notion that frankly should be supported by everyone, regardless of if there is an R or D following their name.
“Although Governor Evers has publicly said he will veto the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act, I hope that he will listen to the public support and the common sense ideas behind this needed legislation. The ball is in his court to do the right thing for Wisconsin babies.”
Having passed in the Assembly last month after receiving overwhelming public support, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act now heads to Governor Evers’ desk for approval.
