MADISON, WI – Today, Rep. Greta Neubauer joined Governor Tony Evers, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, Public Service Commission Chairperson Rebecca Cameron Valcq, youth climate advocates, and other advocacy groups for the signing of Executive Order 38, creating an Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy in the Department of Administration. Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) issued the following statement in support:
“I was truly honored to join Governor Tony Evers, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes and advocates from around the state for the signing of Executive Order 38. This order commits Wisconsin to 100% carbon-free energy by 2050 and creates an Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy!” Neubauer said, “I am so grateful we have an administration that takes climate change seriously, and recognizes that our work tackling this issue is an opportunity to create good jobs and reduce inequality across Wisconsin.”
Neubauer concluded, “Today is one of those days that makes you hopeful and excited to get back to work to bring about a better future for all of us. Onwards!”
Executive Order 38 creates the Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy charged with:
- Establishing a goal of 100% carbon-free energy by 2050;
- Ensuring Wisconsin fulfills the 2015 Paris Accord’s carbon reduction goals;
- Developing and implementing a clean energy plan to mitigate the harm from climate change;
- Promoting clean energy workforce training with UWs, tech colleges, labor, non-profit workforce development programs, and the WI Manufacturing Extension Partnership;
- Fostering innovation, research, and business development for renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainability;
- Developing energy efficiency, sustainability & renewable energy standards for all new & existing state facilities, office buildings, and complexes.
