Recognizing the Critical Role our Native American Communities Play in Wisconsin

MADISON – Yesterday, Rep. Greta Neubauer (D – Racine) participated in the 15th Annual State of the Tribes Address at the Wisconsin State Capitol. This year’s address was delivered by Oneida Nation Chairman Tehassi Hill, who was selected by the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council. The address strives to improve communication between the state government and Wisconsin’s sovereign tribal nations.

“The eleven sovereign tribal nations are a critical part of the fabric of Wisconsin,” Neubauer said. “The State of the Tribes improves the working relationship and enhances communication between our state and tribal governments. I truly appreciate that so many tribal leaders took time from their week to visit the Capitol and share their thoughts and concerns with us. We share a commitment to governing with an eye to the future, so our children and grandchildren may live and thrive in Wisconsin. I am proud to stand with the Tribes as we work to protect our environment, support our children, and strengthen our communities.”
