The Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus kicked off Black History Month with events in Wisconsin’s two most populous cities, Milwaukee and Madison. In Milwaukee, members of the Caucus – including Caucus Chair Rep. David Crowley, and newly elected Reps. Myers and Harwood – were joined by prominent members of the Milwaukee African-American community, as well as Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes. In Madison, the event featured appearances from both the Lieutenant Governor and Governor Evers, as well as Madison’s first black representative, Shelia Stubbs.

The event was the first in a month long celebration of black history. Each week throughout the month, members of the Caucus will hold events based on themes affecting the black community. The week of February 4 will feature events from Reps. Fields and Haywood on Economic Development and Opportunities; the week of February 11 will feature Senator Johnson and Representative Crowley on Health and Mental Health; February 18 Reps. Myers and Stubbs will put on events on Education and Families, and the week of February 25 with Senator Taylor and Rep. Bowen on Criminal Justice. The month wraps up the annual Lobby Day at the Wisconsin State Capitol on February 28.

For a full schedule of events, please visit the Black Caucus’ Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BlackCaucusWI or reach out to the Office of Representative David Crowley. More events will be announced throughout the month.
