Barbara McCormack, vice president for education at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., will give a public presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Lawrence University on the rise and role of fake news in American politics.
It’s set for 7:30 p.m. in Lawrence University’s Steitz Hall 102. The event is free and open to the public.
“Although Google and Facebook are facing uncomfortable scrutiny in their roles in American elections, they are only the platforms that political groups of all stripes use to meddle in the American conversation,” said Arnold Shober, an associate professor of government at Lawrence University. “Barbara McCormack’s presentation will help dispel the clouds of fake news hampering Americans from making informed political choices.”
The Newseum, a museum of journalism near the National Mall in Washington, D.C., works to further American commitment to a free press and the First Amendment.
McCormack’s visit is sponsored by the Lawrence University Government Department and UW-Stout’s Center for the Study of Institutions.
