MADISON – Requests to consider proposed rules and framework for the 2019 Wisconsin migratory bird season, rule changes to agricultural and urban best management practices, and proposed rules for taking catfish by hand or with a bow and arrow or crossbow are among the items the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board will address when it meets June 26 in Barneveld. The board meeting will convene at 8:30 a.m. at Deer Valley Lodge, 401 W. Industrial Drive in Barneveld.

The Natural Resources Board will offer remote participation in an open forum with the board from the DNR Service Center, 1300 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire. Agenda Item 5 – Open Forum is an opportunity for citizens to provide testimony remotely or at the Barneveld meeting location on matters that are not otherwise on the meeting agenda. Comments generally should address broad general policy rather than the day-to-day operations of the Department of Natural Resources. Opportunities for remote testimony will be specifically noticed on each meeting agenda. Pre-registration by posted deadline is required.

Future remote locations include: Milwaukee for the August 14 meeting when the board will be meeting in Wausau; Fitchburg for the September 25 meeting when the board will be meeting in Mishicot; Rhinelander for the October 23 meeting in in Madison; and Green Bay for the December 11 meeting in Madison.

Other topics on the June 26 meeting agenda include a request to approve proposed rules related to aquaculture and fish farms; approval of a scope statement incorporating the 2015 national ambient air quality standards for ozone; request for approval of a scope statement related to eliminating night hunting restrictions for raccoons; along with other topics.

On Tuesday, June 25 the board will participate in area tours and presentations on southwest Wisconsin ground water, a trout shocking demonstration, streambank easement and habitat improvements, statewide trout management plan overview, update from DMAP landowner and cooperator on the SW WI CWD and Deer Predator Study, spring update on the SW WI CWD and Deer Predator Study, and a partner update on the adopt-a-dumpster and adopt-a-kiosk programs regarding CWD management. No action will be taken. NOTE: The public must pre-register with Board Liaison to attend scheduled tours and provide their own transportation.
