MILWAUKEE – International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Wisconsin State Conference President Leo Sokolik released the following statement on Gov. Evers’ Executive Order #20 on Worker Misclassification:

“The IBEW State Conference commends Governor Tony Evers on his effort to eliminate worker misclassification – a practice far too common in the construction industry that is hurting the state, law-abiding employers, and most importantly hard working Wisconsinites.

By labeling employees “independent contractors,” unscrupulous companies are cheating taxes, and failing to pay into Social Security, Workers Compensation and Unemployment Insurance. Hard working employees are shorted wages and forced to rely on government assistance instead of the benefits they’ve earned.

Misclassification is rampant and will only continue to worsen without the Governor’s bold action. This type of fraud has a negative impact on the entire economy and gives corrupt employers an advantage over honest, law abiding, employers.

Thank you Governor Evers for standing up for Wisconsin taxpayers, working families, and honest employers.”
