MILWAUKEE – The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 494 Business Manager Dean A. Warsh released the following statement in response to Gov. Evers’ signing Executive Order to Protect Wisconsin Workers:

“Standing with working families, Governor Tony Evers’ took a huge step to protect Wisconsin from unscrupulous employers who cut costs by scamming workers and the state of Wisconsin. I applaud Governor Evers for taking immediate action to protect the middle class and those striving to get there,” said Dean Warsh, Business Manager of IBEW Local 494.

“Misclassification of workers is an attempt to short change employees and avoid taxes that law abiding businesses adhere to. Unchecked, misclassification is degrading wages and benefits and ever-widening income inequality.

Good employers who play by the rules should not be undercut by companies that misclassify their workers as independent contractors to avoid the appropriate pay standards, payroll taxes, Social Security, unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation and more.

Signing Executive Order #20 shows that Governor Evers’ is putting working families first,” added Warsh.
