A major traffic switch is scheduled for Wednesday night (April 3) on Interstate 39/90 between the WIS 26/Milton Avenue and US 14/Humes Road interchanges in Janesville, Rock County. The following ramp closures are planned at the WIS 26 interchange (Exit 171A) and the US 14 interchange (Exit 171B) – see attached map.

The US 14 ramp to I-39/90 northbound will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday (April 2) to 5 a.m. Thursday (April 4).
Alternate routes are required.
All I-39/90 northbound ramps to and from US 14 (Exit 171B) and WIS 26 (Exit 171A) will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday (April 3) to 5 a.m. Thursday (April 4).
Alternate routes are required, such as the WIS 11/Racine Street interchange to and from I-39/90 northbound.
The I-39/90 southbound ramps will remain open to and from the WIS 26 and US 14 interchanges.
LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURE: The WIS 26/Milton Avenue ramp to I-39/90 northbound will be closed starting 10 p.m. Wednesday (April 3) until early August 2019.
Alternate routes will be required during the four-month closure, such as the US 14 interchange.
The I-39/90 northbound ramp to US 14 (Exit 171B) will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday (April 3) to 2 a.m. Saturday (April 6).
Alternate routes are required, such as the WIS 26 (Exit 171A) ramp for Thursday (April 4) and Friday (April 5).

By Thursday morning (April 4), all I-39/90 traffic will shift onto the southbound side from Kennedy Road, north of the WIS 26 interchange, to the US 14 interchange. Crews will reconstruct and expand the northbound Interstate within these limits. Traffic will remain in this configuration until summer 2020.

Effective tonight (April 1) – in anticipation of the I-39/90 traffic switches in Rock County – the Interstate work zone speed limit will be reduced to 60 mph from Kennedy Road (north of the WIS 26 interchange) in Janesville south to Cranston Road near the I-43/WIS 81 interchange in Beloit. Motorists are advised to obey the posted speed limit!

I-39/90 remains open to two lanes in each direction during daytime hours and weekends. Nightly single lane closures will occur on the Interstate weeknights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. within the construction project limits. All lane restrictions, ramp and road closures, and work operations are weather dependent and subject to change. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, eliminate distractions, do not tailgate and drive with caution in all work zones.
