Uihlein-funded Nicholson supporters at Club for Growth
attack another prominent WI Republican

MADISON — Over the past week, the Wisconsin GOP Senate race has escalated from “nasty primary” to full-on “GOP Civil War,” with Illinois billionaire Dick Uihlein attacking Republican Party of Wisconsin-endorsed frontrunner Leah Vukmir and Uihlein stooge Kevin Nicholson slamming Wisconsin’s GOP congressional delegation members.

Now, Nicholson’s out-of-state backers are going after yet another prominent Wisconsin Republican: former Gov. Tommy Thompson. Thompson, who ran for U.S. Senate in 2012, on Wednesday lambasted Nicholson’s out-of-state supporters at the Washington-based corporate special interest Club for Growth for running negative campaign ads tearing down Vukmir:

“The national Club for Growth is at it again…I won the 2012 GOP primary for U.S. Senate despite Club for Growth’s attacks…Worse yet, the national Club for Growth never offered any help to my campaign in the general election, which gave Tammy Baldwin a huge cash advantage.”

That’s right: Wisconsin’s GOP Civil War is so bad that the candidate who got brutalized by Dick Uihlein-backed Club for Growth on the airwaves in 2012 is out of retirement to warn against a repeat of the 2012 primary that left him damaged beyond repair heading into the general election.

But Club for Growth wasn’t going to take Thompson’s critique lying down. The Uihlein-funded, Nicholson-supporting group punched right back:

@club4growth
Advice from #WISEN General Election loser @TommyforHealth is not needed. Club for Growth PAC actually has a track-record of winning (Sen. Ron Johnson!) Business leaders > career politicians #DrainTheSwamp

For now, it seems Dick Uihlein isn’t prepared to stop attacking Leah Vukmir and her allies — guaranteeing that Wisconsin’s GOP Civil War only escalates further over the coming weeks.
