“Paul Ryan embodies the worst of Washington’s corporate special interest corruption, so it’s no surprise that he wants Leah Vukmir elected to the U.S. Senate.”

MADISON — Today, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan endorsed Leah Vukmir over Kevin Nicholson in Wisconsin’s Republican U.S. Senate primary, setting up an electoral test of Ryan’s influence — or his “light footprint in the state,” as Nicholson might put it.

So far, Vukmir and Nicholson have had a long, protracted, and increasingly nasty primary, that has Nicholson’s out-of-state backers directly challenging Vukmir and her supporters, testing the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s influence, following the party’s Vukmir endorsement.

Brad Bainum, Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson for the 2018 Senate race, issued the following statement on Paul Ryan’s Leah Vukmir endorsement:

“Paul Ryan embodies the worst of Washington’s corporate special interest corruption, so it’s no surprise that he wants Leah Vukmir elected to the U.S. Senate. Vukmir has a decade-plus record of working for corporate special interests in the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate, she’s on the board of a Koch-funded corporate special interest group, and she supports dangerous Ryan policy priorities like cutting Social Security and Medicare and gutting protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions.”
