MADISON — Today as the Senate Judiciary Committee hears testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford who accuses Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, Brad Schimel is choosing to blame Dr. Christine Blasey Ford for discouraging other victims of sexual assault from coming forward. Democratic Party of Wisconsin chair Martha Laning has offered the following statement:
“Dr. Blasey Ford and all women who stand up and share their stories are courageous. Brad Schimel’s comments, claiming that their courage could cause other women to stay silent, is disgusting and a vile way to discourage other victims from coming forward.
“Wisconsin needs an Attorney General that believes women and will fight for justice and support a law enforcement environment where survivors of these crimes know that they can come forward and that they will be treated with respect and taken seriously.
“I know Josh Kaul will stand up for survivors and make sure that dangerous criminals who commit these crimes are punished.”
