New study finds that states suing over ACA most likely to suffer under repeal
MADISON — A new study by the Henry J Kaiser Foundation has found that states currently suing to repeal the Affordable Care Act will suffer most if protections for pre-existing conditions are struck down. Attorney General Brad Schimel is currently spearheading a politicized legal effort, authorized by Scott Walker, to eradicate the law, a move that would jeopardize health care coverage for the 852,000 Wisconsinites under the age of 65 living with a pre-existing condition.
“It is indefensible that Brad Schimel and Scott Walker have chosen to put their own petty political games before the health and livelihood of millions of Wisconsinites,” said Courtney Beyer, Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson. “The fact is we all know someone with a pre-existing condition. For Schimel and Walker to disregard the needs of so many among us in order to make a cheap political shot is disgraceful.”
Analysis done by Kaiser estimates that at least 25 percent of adults under 65 in Wisconsin would be at risk of losing insurance under pre-ACA conditions. Attorneys general in 9 of the 11 states with the highest percentage of residents living with pre-existing conditions have sued to repeal the ACA.
