MADISON — Tonight’s Republican Senate primary broadcast debate will feature all five Republicans running for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination: Griffin Jones, Charles Barman, George Lucia, Kevin Nicholson, and Leah Vukmir.

That gives Jones, Barman, and Lucia an opportunity to tonight highlight that Vukmir and Nicholson are beholden to the corporate special interests and megadonors that are spending millions to elect Vukmir and Nicholson and buy a U.S. Senator who works for them.

Here are some questions that Leah Vukmir and Kevin Nicholson should have to answer at tonight’s debate:

Questions for Leah Vukmir

  • Why has Leah Vukmir repeatedly sided with insurance and drug companies over our state’s working families, and worked to let them charge patients, including seniors, more for coverage?
  • How can we trust Leah Vukmir to take on Washington’s corporate special interest corruption when she’s on the board of a Koch brothers-funded “stealth business lobbyist” special interest group?
  • Why is Vukmir campaigning on the GOP tax law that sends more than 80 percent of benefits to Vukmir’s biggest donors, the richest Americans, and big corporations like Pfizer — a law that Washington Republicans are now using to argue for deep cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid?

Questions for Kevin Nicholson

  • What — beyond pledging his support for privatizing Social Security and eliminating health care programs that hardworking Wisconsinites rely on — did Kevin Nicholson promise Illinois billionaire Dick Uihlein in exchange for Uihlein bankrolling his campaign… to the tune of $8 million? Nicholson hasn’t addressed his relationship with Uihlein except to praise him for his support.
  • Why did Kevin Nicholson for months hide the names of the private equity firms and hedge funds that have paid him nearly $1 million in consulting commissions while they laid off nearly 1,900 workers?
  •  Who did Kevin Nicholson vote for in North Carolina’s Democratic presidential primary? Nicholson claims he voted “No Preference,” but PolitiFact WisconsinWITI-TV, and the Wisconsin State Journal, have each debunked Nicholson’s claims, and determined that he voted for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. Did Nicholson vote for Clinton, or was it Obama? He’s been evasive and voters deserve to know his record.
