Madison, WI — Wisconsin NOW’s state convention is slated for Saturday, April 21 at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery in Madison from 10 am to 2 pm. The event, which is open to the public, will feature a panel on what women of color want white feminists to know; a second panel on how Scott Walker has left Wisconsin women behind, and why everyone must be engaged in the gubernatorial race; and a training for LGBTQ allies led by Outreach.
The women of color panel will feature Madison Common Council Alder Shiva Bidar, Ali Muldrow of GSafe, Angela Lang of Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC) and Sabrina Madison who is the creator of the Progress Center for Black Women, the Black Women’s Leadership Conference, Conversation Mixtape, and the Black Business Expo.
Confirmed speakers for the gubernatorial panel include Representative Lisa Subeck, Representative Dianne Hesselbein, and Representative Terese Berceau.
The convention will elect new state officers including Wisconsin Chapter President, Vice President of Action, Executive Vice President, and Secretary. Anyone who has been a NOW member for at least 30 days is eligible to vote in the officer election.
Lindsay Lemmer, president of the Madison NOW chapter, notes that this is a crucial year for Wisconsin’s women. “2018 is an important election year, and we want to ensure we have strong state leadership to advance feminist values and actions statewide. We are very excited about the speakers and activities we have lined up for this convention. Attendees will hear from well-known social justice leaders, and women in the State Legislature who’ve consistently worked to advance equal rights for all.”
