WIPPS names recipient of
Young Adult Civic Engagement Award

An active community volunteer and honors student who aspires to continue helping her community in college has been named the first recipient of the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service Young Adult Civic Engagement Award.

Selena Hansen, a senior at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, will receive the $500 scholarship award at the WIPPS 10th Anniversary Gala April 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau.

Hansen has volunteered hundreds of hours to her school and community throughout her high school years. Her volunteer efforts include working with a special needs Girl Scout Troop and creating an event designed to help the girls become strong and independent community members.

She is also actively involved in the tobacco awareness group FACT, and has made several presentations to the Portage County Department of Health and Human Services. She is involved with the National Honor Society, Lincoln High School jazz band, Incourage Community Foundation, McMillan Library in Wisconsin Rapids, United Way’s Project Fresh Start and Stuff the Desk.

Hansen plans to attend Marian University in Fond du Lac, where she has been admitted to the honors program, to major in business administration and accounting and minor in music performance.

The WIPPS Young Adult Civic Engagement Award was established in honor of WIPPS’ 10th anniversary, through a donation by former Wisconsin 7th District Congressman Dave Obey and his wife, Joan. For more details on WIPPS, go to wipps.org.
