Eagle, Wis. – During the month of August, Old World Wisconsin will bloom with garden activities as guests experience Heirloom Gardens!

“As we soak in the summer sun, our gardens will be blooming with lively, beautiful heirloom flowers, fruits and vegetables,” said Dan Freas, site director of Old World Wisconsin. “The diversity of plants is matched only by the stories of our immigrant families who cultures, foods and styles can be seen in the activities throughout the month.”

Heirloom Garden month will be full of immersive experiences for guests of all ages to participate in. These hands-on activities range from creating natural plant dyes, to discovering the sweet magic of honeymaking and botany demonstrations.  The celebration will include tours with heirloom garden experts who will talk about and showcase hundreds of different vegetables, flowers and herbs, some of which guests will get to taste-test!  In addition to the organic food tastings, guests are also invited to get their hands dirty and try out old-fashioned gardening tools and visit the root cellar, rockery, and rootery.  Guests will receive also receive gardening tips!

During their visit, guests can stop at the new Old World Wisconsin Garden Shop to pick up heirloom seeds, tools, and other garden inspiration to make their home bloom with history.  Old World Wisconsin’s plants, staff, and volunteers look forward to welcoming you to celebrate heirloom gardens.
