La Pointe, Wis. – Make history come alive this summer as you experience NEW exhibits additions and activities at the Madeline Island Museum.  On May 26, the Madeline Island Museum will reopen for the 2018 season.

“The Madeline Island team is thrilled to reopen our doors to the public this season as it brings a full-range of new activities and programming,” said Keldi Merton, site director at the Madeline Island Museum.  “Thanks to a generous grant from the Pace Woods Foundation, we are able to highlight the stories of an additional six NEW women in the Women of Madeline Island Exhibit.”

Through this grant, the museum is also offering three artists in residence as well as expanding their lecture series to host three additional speakers that will share with the public their insights about the history of the women of Madeline Island.

Throughout the season, Madeline Island will offer a variety of special events and programming including:

  • Community Open House (May 25)
  • Visitor Appreciation Weekend: Half Price Admission (June 2-3)
  • Ojibwe Artist Residency Series
  • Wednesday Evening Speaker Series (All season long)
  • Madeline Island Fourth of July (July 4)
  • Madeline Island Chamber Music Lecture and Concert (July 11 & 19)
  • Connection Cultures: Exploring the Lake Superior Fur Trade (July 13-15)
  • Anishinaabe Cultural Days (Aug. 18-19)
  • Commemoration of the Treaty of 1854 (Sept. 29-30)
  • Madeline Island Holiday Boutique (Nov. 24)

All Wisconsin Historical Society members receive free admission throughout the season.  Tickets for adults (18-64) cost $8; Seniors (over 65) $7; Children: Free. Additional information regarding operating hours and special events can be found at madelineislandmuseum.org.
