30th Biennial Convention draws union leaders and workers from industries across the state
(September 24, 2018, MILWAUKEE, WI) — Delegates of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO will meet in Milwaukee this week for a three-day convention to democratically set the agenda of the state labor federation, elect new state federation officers, build solidarity among affiliates and strategize innovative ways to lead the Wisconsin labor movement forward.
“At this 2018 Convention, we will build power for workers by engaging union leaders and union members on issues that matter most to working families,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. “Issues of economic opportunity, higher wages, safe jobs, a secure retirement and a fair return on hard work for every worker will be discussed and prioritized as we Join, Fight, Win, Together.”
Delegates are hearing from thought and policy leaders, organizers, union leaders and politicians, including gubernatorial candidate Tony Evers and lieutenant governor candidate Mandela Barnes, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Congresswomen Gwen Moore, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten.
The 2018 Join, Fight, Win, Together Convention will be the last convention with Phil Neuenfeldt as the President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO.
“Working people united through unions remain the single greatest force for delivering equality and opportunity to all working people, regardless of background. It’s time for working people to thrive, not merely survive,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “All workers deserve the freedom to Join, Fight, Win, Together. At this 30th biennial convention of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO we charge forward together to write new path for workers and the Wisconsin labor movement.”
