MADISON – Rep. Dana Wachs, a Democrat challenging Scott Walker for the governor’s office in November, spoke out today as the Wisconsin Republican Convention begins in Milwaukee. Rep. Wachs called out Walker for attempting to paint over his record of cutting schools, communities, and dividing the state across political lines:
“While wealthy out-of-state donors are busy holding court, waiting for Walker to kiss the ring, so many Wisconsin families are struggling just to put food on the table.
“While in Milwaukee recently, I spoke with a young, single mother who is fighting tooth and nail to take care of her three children. She is working two jobs, struggling to find affordable childcare, and dealing with tens of thousands of dollars of student loan debt. She is worried because just one small thing like getting sick and missing work or her car breaking down could throw her entire world into chaos. That’s the reality for so many people in our state, not some unemployment statistic.
“Before I met Beverly, I was a single father to my three children. Thank goodness that I had the resources to help me care for them, but I lay awake often worrying about folks who don’t have those same advantages. Our government has to do right by the people who are working hard to make ends meet, not the wealthy special interests Gov. Walker is courting in Milwaukee this weekend.
“I truly believe Wisconsin is the greatest state in this country and I know that we can make the lives of hardworking folks better, but we’ve got to make real people our priority. We’ve got to unite Wisconsin. That’s what I am doing in this governor’s race and that’s why I’m going to beat Walker in November.”
