EAU CLAIRE – Dana Wachs called out Gov. Scott Walker for refusing to allow voters to elect legislators for two seats made vacant when the De Pere and Lodi area elected officials quit their jobs to take cushy government appointments in the Walker administration:

“Scott Walker is nervous. He watched Sen. Patty Schachtner win a seat Republicans thought belonged to them. Now he’s subverting democracy in order to prevent more Democrats from being elected.

“Over the next few months, the legislature is set to take important votes on issues that impact people’s lives. Gov. Walker is trying to control the outcome of those votes by refusing to hold special elections. The people of the De Pere and Lodi areas deserve to be represented in the legislature when Republicans vote to strip people of access to healthcare and to make it harder for Wisconsin families to rent a place to live.

“Call a special election, Gov. Walker. It is the right thing to do, the democratic thing to do, and you know it.”
