| EAU CLAIRE – Dana Wachs issued a statement today calling out Gov. Scott Walker for running away from reporters when questioned about President Trump’s call to arm public school teachers with weapons:
“Gov. Walker is absent. He’s nowhere to be found on the issue of banning the sale of assault weapons. He’s nowhere to be found on responding to President Trump’s outrageous claim that we should ask public school teachers to carry guns in their classrooms.
“I would ask why Gov. Walker is so sheepish on gun safety, but we all know the answer — he benefited from $3.5 million in spending from the NRA. Walker sold his soul to powerful special interest groups a long time ago. There is little chance of him standing up for Wisconsinites now.
“Wisconsin needs a real leader. We need a leader who isn’t afraid to stand up to the NRA and demand gun safety measures to protect our children.
“Let’s be honest, this is an issue of domestic terrorism. No parent should fear to send their child to school. No public school teacher should be asked to carry a gun into the classroom, to barricade their students inside a classroom closet, or to use their bodies as a shield. What Gov. Walker, President Trump, and the NRA are asking of our communities is just wrong.
“I have a plan to ban the sale of assault weapons, ban bump stocks, and high-capacity magazines, and to require universal background checks, a 48-hour waiting period on firearm sales, and additional safety measures for gun dealers before the point of sale. We can and must do more to protect our children, our families, and our communities. I’m done waiting on Scott Walker and I believe most of Wisconsin is too.” |
