Brookfield, Wis. — Upon hearing the news that Sen. Tammy Baldwin is calling on President Trump to withdraw the nomination of federal judicial nominee Gordon Giampietro, U.S. Senate candidate and state Sen. Leah Vukmir released the following statement Tuesday:

“It is absolutely appalling that in the year 2018, a highly qualified jurist would be denied a chance at serving on the district court not because of his legal qualifications, but because he is a man of faith. Discrimination and religious persecution are never acceptable, and it is despicable that a sitting member of the U.S. Senate can freely and openly engage in this prejudiced behavior. Sen. Baldwin should be ashamed of herself, and citizens across our state and nation, regardless of their religious views, should be deeply troubled that a government official is using her position of power to engage in this reprehensible behavior.”

Leah Vukmir is a nurse, military mom and conservative with a proven record who has stood with Gov. Walker in cutting taxes and implementing bold reforms. She is running for the U.S. Senate to bring the Wisconsin Way to Washington. She currently serves as a state senator from Brookfield.
