As corporate interests spend unprecedented amounts of money in Wisconsin elections, Latinx voters speak up

Press conference to discuss endorsements Monday, April 2nd, at 12pm at the Cesar Chavez statue at El Rey on 16th St. in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, WI — Voces de la Frontera Action, the 501c4 arm of Voces de la Frontera, Wisconsin’s leading immigrant rights organization and the largest Latinx-membership based organization in the state, is proud to endorse Peggy West and Steven Shea for Milwaukee County Supervisor and Judge Rebecca Dallet for Wisconsin Supreme Court. Voces Action is also recommending a “No” vote on the constitutional amendment to eliminate the State Treasurer office.

Voces de la Frontera Action, State Rep. Jocasta Zamarripa, and local progressive Latinx leaders will hold a press conference on Monday, April 2nd, at 12pm at the Cesar Chavez statue at El Rey on 16th St. in Milwaukee (916 S Cesar Chavez Dr).

Voces Action’s endorsements come following news that billlionaire Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele has thrown $1 million into a secretive PAC in an effort to defeat County Supervisor West, Shea, other County Supervisors.

“Supervisor West has been a champion for immigrants & working families on the County Board, and Steven Shea has been a strong community leader on the front line of the struggles to defend equality and rights for working people,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera Action. “Their opponents are supported by corporate interests who have spent more than $1 million in an effort to buy the County Board as part of a privatization agenda. We can’t allow big money to buy local elections. We have to defend democracy and stand up against a privatization agenda that would undermine quality of life for working families.”

“Similarly, Judge Dallet understands how the law impacts working families,” continued Neumann-Ortiz. “She will stand up to corporate interests, and be an impartial, ethical check on Scott Walker’s abuses of power in the courts. The office of the State Treasurer is an important safeguard against corruption. Eliminating the Treasurer’s office would allow Scott Walker to spend public money with no transparency or accountability. We urge all voters to stand up to big money, and vote for Supervisor West, Judge Dallet, and no on the constitutional referendum.”

Voces de la Frontera Action has placed radio ads in support of the endorsements on Spanish-language radio throughout Southeast Wisconsin. Information about Monday’s press conference is as follows:
