MADISON — The University of Wisconsin–Madison has placed the university’s Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter, 124 Langdon St., on interim suspension for a safety-related incident during the weekend of June 30-July 1.
An interim suspension prevents a student organization from holding events, reserving space or enjoying the other privileges of student organization status. Further details are not available, pending the completion of an investigation.
The investigation will be conducted by the Division of Student Life on behalf of the Committee on Student Organizations.
If a fraternity is found in violation of the Student Organization Code, sanctions are possible for the organization. Individuals can be held accountable under the nonacademic misconduct code.
On Tuesday, the Kappa Sigma national office terminated the charter of the chapter, which further suspends its status and operations, pending any appeal.
“This is an extremely serious situation and we support the actions of the national Kappa Sigma headquarters as we move ahead with the university response to this incident,” says incoming interim Dean of Students Argyle Wade.
