MADISON, Wis. – Six new memory care clinics have joined the Dementia Diagnostic Clinic Network of the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute this year. The network is a program aimed at sharing resources and developing dementia diagnostic services throughout Wisconsin.  It began in 1998 and the network now has 36 members across the state.

The new members include:

  • Aurora Two Rivers Memory Assessment Clinic in Two Rivers (Manitowoc County)
  • Green Bay Veterans Administration Health Care Center Memory Assessment Clinic (Brown County)
  • Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center (Oneida County)
  • Prevea Allouez Health Clinic (Brown County)
  • Senior Memory Assessment Center- Independent Psychiatric Consultants (Waukesha County)

Senior Memory Assessment Center – St. Anne’s (Milwaukee County)

Representatives from the network will be in Madison Friday, November 9 for the annual WAI Annual Alzheimer’s Disease Update conference.  Experts will present on the latest research in the field and approaches to diagnosis and care that give the best outcome for patient and caregivers.  The 16th annual conference is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Madison Concourse Hotel.

“This is an important educational opportunity for those who work tirelessly in dementia- related fields across the state. We want to offer state-of-the-art education, so we can improve the diagnosis and care for those living with dementia,” said Dr. Cindy Carlsson, director of the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute. “We are thrilled to have new members join and highlight the work of long-time members at this meeting. We hope the network will continue to grow so we can improve care in our state.”

The network has interdisciplinary teams of health-care professionals who work to complete a comprehensive evaluation of dementia.  They work with the WAI network outreach staff to develop a memory care clinic if needed, and to develop a solid foundation of care.

Froedtert Hospital’s Neurology Memory Disorders Clinic and Prevea Health in Eau Claire will be honored for their longevity in the program this year. Both joined the network in the late ‘90s. The network meets twice a year in Madison and guidance on clinical operations and training on dementia diagnosis, management and safety is available.
