(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) today released the following statement after receiving news that the U.S. would be withdrawing from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), otherwise known as the Iran Nuclear Deal.

“There is no question that Iran is a danger in the Middle East that is quickly evolving into a global threat.”

“When the Iran Nuclear Deal was first being discussed, I thought it was a one-sided deal that left plenty of room for Iran to cheat. That is why I was shocked when the Obama administration agreed to it”

“I applaud President Trump for keeping his campaign promise to put politics aside and keep the safety of American lives a priority by terminating the Iran Deal.”

“It is more obvious now than when the deal was first being discussed that it was a mistake because of Iran’s dishonesty going into the deal, the weak mechanism for inspections and repeated violations of the deal’s heavy water stockpile limits.”

“The sanctions now being placed on Iran will stifle its nuclear program by targeting critical parts of its economy. This is an essential step as we work with our allies to find a real, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Iranian threat.”

“Looking at Iran’s track record of lying, bullying and genocide, giving them a longer leash was not going to make them into a productive country.”

“Terminating the Iran Nuclear Deal, reinstating heavy, effective sanctions and resuming work with other countries to halt Iran’s nuclear program and curb its malicious behavior is the best way to deal with this menace, and that is exactly the path we are now on.”

“Anyone who, especially knowing what we now know, thinks that we should not have terminated this atrocious deal is, sadly, hopelessly naïve.”
