Washington, D.C. – Tonight, Rep. Mike Gallagher voted in support of H.R. 184, the Protect Medical Innovation Act, to repeal the medical-device tax created under the Affordable Care Act in 2010. The bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to repeal the 2.3 percent excise tax on the sale of medical devices by manufacturers, producers, and importers. Rep. Gallagher has been a co-sponsor of the bipartisan legislation since his first month in office.

Rep. Gallagher said, “The medical device tax has proven to be one of the most onerous and unpopular features of Obamacare. By letting government get in the way of medical innovation, this tax has impeded patients’ ability to access potentially life-saving treatments and technologies. The costly tax has also led to reduced investment in research and development, and has jeopardized thousands of Wisconsin jobs supported by the medical technology industry.” He continued, “Patients and innovators should be at the center of health care, not the federal government, which is why I urge my colleagues in the Senate to follow the House’s lead and pass this bill.”
