Milton, WI– Today, Lifelong Milton resident Gabriel Szerlong announced his candidacy to represent the 43rd Assembly District in the state legislature.
Szerlong felt compelled to run after hearing from friends and neighbors who believe a more energetic advocate is needed for the district. Gabriel is no stranger to serving his community. Szerlong is one of the youngest individuals ever to receive the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). His service project, which he completed at age 14, included making improvements to the local middle school band room storage.
“Constituent services needs to be the number one priority for the next state representative from the 43rd district,” said Szerlong. “On a daily basis, cutting through bureaucratic red tape and getting answers from agencies is the most basic and necessary function for effective representation. My experience working in a legislative office will allow me to be ready to serve constituents on Day 1.”
Szerlong, a Republican, also wants to emphasize workforce retention and recruitment and has ideas on how to make Wisconsin a destination for young talent.
“We need to make sure Wisconsin continues to be a great place to live, work and visit and that means strong schools, quality communities and a healthy economy.” said Szerlong. “Wisconsin has been incredibly successful at attracting exciting new industries. Now we need to make sure we are letting young talent know career opportunities are abundant in Wisconsin and we want them to make Wisconsin home. As a millenial, I feel uniquely qualified to help make that happen.”
Szerlong graduated in 2017 from UW-Whitewater with a Bachelor of Science in political science with a minor in public administration. Szerlong’s work history includes serving the public as a salesman during college and as a legislative assistant during the 2017-2018 legislative session.
The 43rd Assembly District contains portions of Rock, Walworth, Dane and Jefferson counties including Whitewater, Milton, Edgerton, Footville, part of Oregon and surrounding towns.
