FOX POINT – Liz Sumner, candidate for Wisconsin’s 23rd Assembly District, today issued the following statement:
“I’m proud to stand with working Wisconsinites like the folks at the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters. They work diligently to provide the best trained, most productive and safest workforce available for construction projects. One of the pressing issues facing our state is how to increase the amount of skilled labor we have to meet a growing demand in the construction industry. Working with the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, I know that we can develop a new generation of workers, who are ready to build infrastructure which will last for generations.”
“Unfortunately, my opponent and his corporate interests have engaged in a race to the bottom when it comes to our construction industry. Since 2011, our legislature has passed legislation which ban project labor agreements, ended prevailing wage laws and made our state right-to-work for less. These pieces of legislation have decreased the pay and benefits of working families and have not improved the state of infrastructure projects, many of which are behind schedule. We need to end the attacks on working people and provide long-term solutions to the problems which plague our infrastructure system.”
Liz Sumner is a resident of Fox Point, a small business owner, a current member of the Fox Point Village Board, mother of two young children, and is the Democrat running to represent the 23rd Assembly District in the general election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
