MILWAUKEE – University of Wisconsin Regent Bryan Steil voted today to approve the UW System’s 2018-19 annual budget. The budget maintains the resident undergraduate tuition freeze for the sixth straight year and the average cost for resident freshman living on campus increases by just 1 percent, below the estimated inflation rate of 2.5 percent.
Steil released the following statement in support of the budget:
Steil: “Student affordability is critical. Last year, I voted against the budget because it increased student fees. This budget is the best I have seen since I’ve been on the board. It drives high quality, affordable education. We held the line on tuition, and fees and housing grew below inflation. That’s a statement of affordability. It’s also a statement of the hard work of President Cross and of our chancellors and staff. I am proud to support the budget.”
Steil was appointed and unanimously confirmed in 2016 to serve on the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents. He is a conservative voice on the board, which oversees the UW System’s budget for 26 campuses serving over 170,000 students.
Bryan Steil was born and raised in Janesville, Wisconsin. He is a member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents and has a strong background as a business leader. For the past nine years Bryan has worked for manufacturing companies in Rock County and has learned the importance of fiscal discipline and risks of government red tape. Bryan is running for Congress to reduce government overreach and prepare our workforce for the jobs of the future.
