Bold reforms moved Wisconsin forward, more work to do

Madison, WI – Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) released the following statement on Governor Walker’s annual State of the State Address:

Eight years ago, Wisconsin was heading in the wrong direction. This afternoon, Governor Walker clearly showed the successes conservative leadership achieved to change Wisconsin for the better.

When Governor Walker first took office the challenges were much different: high unemployment, massive tax increases, billion dollar budget deficits, and little flexibility for local governments to cut costs.

Now, Republican are leading the state through the lowest unemployment rate ever, lower tax burdens and investments in our next generation. Our policies are working.

I look forward to working with the Governor on welfare reform. It is imperative, especially in our booming job market, we help those on these programs to self-sufficiency. Welfare recipients want to work. Rather than forcing a choice between government dependence and work independence, these welfare reforms ensure independence can achieved.

As the Governor indicated, there is more work to do. Every time we pass bold, conservative reforms, Wisconsin voters respond positively.
