A written transcript of the address is below:

“Hi, I’m State Senator Jennifer Shilling with this week’s Democratic Radio Address.

“As students across Wisconsin head back to school, I want to take a minute to thank all of our educators, support staff and school officials who work their hardest to educate and care for our children.

“For years, Republican budget cuts have reduced wages, lowered standards, and created teacher shortages across the state.

“Communities and property taxpayers have been forced to go to referendum and shoulder a larger burden as state education funding is diverted to private vouchers, tax breaks for the wealthy and subsidies for foreign corporations like Foxconn.

“Wisconsin families know that local public schools are the heart of our communities.

“That’s why Democrats are fighting to restore local school funding, retain quality teachers and reestablish Wisconsin’s reputation as a leader in education.

“By reigning in unfair tax giveaways and prioritizing investments in K-12 schools, we can strengthen local communities, ensure better outcomes and expand opportunities for every child in Wisconsin.

“Thank you for listening, and thanks again to all of our educators, support staff and school officials – I hope this school year is a successful one!”
