4-Lane Expansion to Begin in Summer 2019

Madison- State Senator Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) and State Representatives Terry Katsma (R-Oostburg) and Tyler Vorpagel (R-Plymouth) issued the following statement regarding the statement on Federal Approval of the Highway 23 Project:

“Highway 23 has been of one of our main concerns as your state legislators in Sheboygan County. We worked tirelessly last session to ensure that the budget had the funding necessary to start Highway 23 and we are happy to announce that the Record of Decision for Hwy 23 four lane expansion was signed earlier this morning by DOT Secretary Ross, meaning work could begin as early as summer of 2019.

“This is great news for Sheboygan County and the surrounding area,” stated Sen. LeMahieu. “Highway 23 is an incredibly vital corridor for both residents and businesses. The four lane expansion is crucial to provide much needed safety enhancements.”

“The four lane expansion will help improve safety and mobility between Plymouth and Fond du Lac and since taking office in 2015 this has been the issue that everyone in the community asks me about. Credit also goes to the DOT leadership and staff who have worked quickly to resolve the concerns of the court that halted this project two years ago,” said Rep. Vorpagel.

“This is an important step in moving a long overdue project forward,” said Rep. Katsma, “This is a huge win for the community and businesses that travel this road daily.”
