Ryan Congratulates Longtime Friend Leah Vukmir On Her Victory; Urges Party Unity To Win In November

JANESVILLE, WI — House Speaker and Wisconsin’s First District Congressman Paul Ryan issued the following statement after State Senator Leah Vukmir was declared the winner in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin:

“Leah crisscrossed the state during this primary and I congratulate her on a hard-fought victory. I’ve known Leah for a long time and supported her because she’s a proven conservative with a track record of getting things done.

“It’s now critical for our party to unify behind Leah so we can achieve our ultimate goal: defeating Tammy Baldwin. House Republicans have gotten so much done to improve things for Wisconsinites and Americans, but we need more allies in the U.S. Senate so we can fully implement our pro-growth agenda. I know that if we contrast Leah’s common-sense conservative message with Senator Baldwin’s far-left and out-of-touch ideas, we will win in November.”

In June, Speaker Ryan and Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner wrote a joint op-ed endorsing Leah Vukmir in the primary, and Ryan campaigned with Vukmir last night in Mt. Pleasant, WI. For more information, please visit www.speakerryan.com.
