Audio File of Radio Address

Hello, this is State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa with this week’s Democratic Radio Address.

On April 6th, Defense Secretary James Mattis signed an order allowing 4,000 National Guard troops to be sent to the United States-Mexico border under the “command and control” of state governors.

In response, Governor Scott Walker issued a statement declaring his support for “Donald Trump’s aggressive actions.”

The Governor suggested he would be willing to take these measures “a step further” in order to protect Wisconsinites from “illegal drugs, human trafficking, and illegal firearms.”

Governor Walker, if you truly wanted to address the use of illegal substances in Wisconsin, you would support more comprehensive prevention programs and drug treatment services here at home.

If you honestly wanted to stop human trafficking in Wisconsin, you would support existing proposals to protect survivors and prevent further tragedies.

If you were actually committed to ending the sale and transfer of illegal firearms in Wisconsin, you would push for common sense gun safety reforms, like universal background checks, to keep our schools and communities safe.

At a time when border crossings are at a historic low, it is so obvious that Governor Walker’s actions are nothing more than politically motivated attempts to divide us by inciting fear and anger.

But these thinly vailed attempts will not succeed.

Wisconsin deserves better.

Thank you.
