Madison: Yesterday the final 60 schools receiving funding as part of the first round of the Wisconsin Department of Justice School Safety Grant Program were announced. This group includes Bethany Evangelical Lutheran School in Manitowoc, which will receive $15,050 for building improvements and staff training.

“It is great to see many local schools receiving safety grants from the state,” said Rep. Tittl (R-Manitowoc), who represents the 25th Assembly District. “I would encourage our local schools to also apply for the second round of grants, which will provide funding for advanced mental health training, School Safety Intervention Teams, and physical security upgrades.”

More than $48 million is available to be distributed during the second round of grants. Applications for the second round are open now and close on August 30. Schools that have already received funding are eligible to receive additional money during the second round.
