MADISON… This week, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed a bill that will give additional resources to district attorneys’ offices across the state to address staffing shortages. The bill includes an additional position for the Marathon County District Attorneys’ office. Representative Patrick Snyder (Schofield) was pleased to vote in favor the proposal.

“Marathon County continues to impress me with the innovative approaches they are taking to fight crime and keep our communities safe,” said Snyder. “The additional prosecutor in our community will help support the efforts and commitment to promote public safety.”

The bill will allocate roughly $4 million to create more than 50 assistant DA positions throughout the state. Marathon County is one of the 40 counties who will receive an additional state funded position.

“This session, it was a priority of mine to assist Marathon County in their efforts to implement a drug treatment court,” said Snyder. “With the additional funding included in the 2017-19 state budget, Marathon County was successful in the grant process and is now in the beginning stages of implementing the program. The additional prosecutor will play a critical role in ensuring we are taking the necessary steps to get treatment to those who need it and responding quickly to the needs of our victims.”

The proposal now heads to the Senate for their consideration. If the bill is passed into law, the funding for the new positions would begin July 1, 2019.
