Madison–State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), Co-chair of the Joint Committee on Finance, released the following statement immediately following the announcement that Trident Maritime Systems is expanding into Marinette, Wisconsin:

“Over the last few months, it has been hard to keep up with all the positive economic developments for northeastern Wisconsin. Today, we are adding to that list. Trident Maritime Systems (Trident) has announced that they will be opening a new office and warehouse in Marinette, Wisconsin. This new location will bring more family supporting jobs to northeastern Wisconsin and will further entrench Marinette’s standing on the worldwide stage of shipbuilding.”

Trident is a worldwide provider of turnkey marine systems and solutions for government and commercial vessel new construction, retrofit and repair both in the U.S. and internationally.

“Earlier this year, I joined Governor Scott Walker in Marinette for the dedication ceremony of the Wisconsin Maritime Center for Excellence. The Center serves as a training, educational, research and entrepreneurship center that is helping fuel commercial collaboration and supplier development for the shipbuilding industry. It is clear that investments like these are now paying dividends for not only northeastern Wisconsin, but the entire state.”

Rep. Nygren has played a pivotal role in helping shepherd crucial investments for the Northeastern Wisconsin shipbuilding economy. In early 2013, a grant of $5 million was awarded to the Wisconsin Maritime Center of Excellence by the state for the construction of the building. In 2016, the center received a 500,000 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. And earlier this month, Rep. Nygren lent his support for Marinette Marine’s application for Harbor Assistance Funds to make improvements to the shipyard.

Just last month, Marinette Marine was awarded a $450 million contract to build Multi-Mission Surface Combatants which is expected to add 400 employees to its workforce. Marinette Marine is also a finalist to construct FFG(X) frigates for the US Navy.
